Alarm In Edwards Camp– Wife’s Cancer Returns!

John and Elizabeth Edwards, today at a news conference announced that his wife’s cancer had returned. Her cancer diagnosed in 2004 and thought to be in remission, is now at stage 4– in the bone and probably in the lungs, too. As this alarm went off in Edwards’ camp, many imagined the words would be “campaign suspended”. But Edwards has reassured his supporters that he will remain in the race.

Mrs. Edwards’ physician has emphasized that while the cancer is not curable, it is treatable. With no plans to drop out of the race, the Senator added “the campaign goes on strongly”. Of course, there is a political side to this story. While is wife’s cancer is treatable will it be impossible for him to campaign effectively? Was the decision to stay in the race- the right one?And are you more likely to support/not support him, given these challenges?

Obama Consultant tied to “Hillary 1984″

Does “Hillary 1984″ make Obama a political executioner? His is camp going for the jugular–no holds barred? With the buzz created with George Orwells ” Big Sister”, the spellbinding video, first seen on YouTube, was thought to be produced my an anonymous creator. But after much denial from the Obama camp that neither he or anyone from his campaign was responsible, there has been a shift on who claims victory. Because reports are that the video was created by a consultant who works for Blue State Digital, the internet consultant for Senator Barak Obama.

Clearly what is demonstrated by this “Big Sister” piece, is that YouTube is a powerful political format, to be used by all candidates; with this a realization, only a few among those running for the presidency, Duncan Hunter (R-Cal) and Mike Huckabee (R-Ark) have no profiles on that site.

YouTube has a created a democracy of its own; given every video gets a ranking determined by the number of viewers it receives. In the online popularity contest, Obama wins the vote in a landslide. He was the first to start using this format claiming over 627, 000 viewers. Hillary trails with 51,000. YouTube embraces a younger audience, consequently will this popular site create some trouble for Hillary? Is it a double-edged sword for 2008 candidates not yet sure how this will play out?

Lou Dobbs for President–?

A popular website is leading a move to draft journalist and newsman, Lou Dobbs for president, just in case the two parties, they believe, fail the American people again.

Dobbs, host of Lou Dobbs Tonight, has won kudos among many for his stance against the outsourcing of American jobs, the demise of America’s middle class and his demand for a sensible immigration policy that limits the number of undocumented immigrants entering the country. Member of this draft movement points out that the last two presidential elections gave the nation candidates, Gore and Bush, which was really a contest between men and families of privilege. Consequently, they are calling for an independent movement with Lou Dobbs at the helm.

Michigan Poll– Hillary, Guiliani and McCain Leads

Hillary the long distant runner– still leads!! That is despite YouTube.

In a poll taken in Michigan, Senator Hillary Clinton leads among Democrats, while Senator John McCain and former mayor, Rudy Guiliani, tops the Republicans. The caucus results showed Hillary with 45 percent, Obama 29 percent and former Senator John Edwards at a distant third, with 16 percent.

Among Republicans, 30 percent supported McCain, 26 percent chose Giuliani and former governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, was picked by 21 percent. Questioned on which candidates they preferred, Democrats gave Senator Clinton 78 percent, Obama 72 percent, while Republicans, 53 percent favored Giuliani and 50 percent favored John McCain. Only 29 percent had a favorable opinion of Mitt Romney. As the race heats up — will Giuliani beat McCain? And will Hillary as the Democratic nominee be the best hope to save the GOP?

Isn’t it too early to pay attention to poll results??

It’s sad to hear about Edwards’s wife. My prayers go out to them.

If John Edwards suspended his campaign now it would probably make the reality of his wife’s cancer too real. I’m sure they’re not ready for that yet.

John Edwards could have dropped out of the race, that would have been the easy. But what is more difficult is to have his wife at home expecting pity/death. Keeping busy during a crisis, can also be therapy.

I am republican, and would not vote for him because his platform does not reflect my concerns. But I certainly empathize.

Yes, Lou Dobbs should be drafted for president.

When the only people who can run for president are millionaires or connected to millionaires, then something is wrong. The middle class which comprises the largest number contiunes to disappear into the poverty lines.

Yes, Lou Dobbs would give the middle class the represenation which neither parties want to give or is interested in giving.

It is time to dump the status quo– and give middle class Americans a chance.

I admire John Edwards for publicly supporting his wife in very troubling times. For those who would look at it as a cheap shot to get votes, shame on you. It will embolden some men in the future if not now to support their spouse or partner whenever news seem more negative than positive. In his own way, I think the candidate is giving a lesson about the importance and value of supporting one another and still aim high. Senator Edwards I admire you for your stance. Good luck!

Lou Dobbs as president, Is this a joke ! An isolationist that believes in closed border and old world trade practices is just too much a remnant of the past.

While i am in agreement with his views on middle class erosion due to many financial constraints, he misses the mark when he constantly harps on about the impact of illegal aliens, our trade deficit with china and how NAFTA will bring about the demise of the nations economic strength, and his belief that these remain the major factors affecting Americas dominance and long-term standing at an economic superpower (as well as military) even though there are “many” economists that have proven most of these to be untrue.

He is a part of the noise that keeps people distracted from the inept polices of a broken government and the opportunity cost of a 258 Billion dollar war (with no end in sight) when we long lost sight about what we went to war about.

But what am i thinking!? Let me continue to believe his diatribe on illegal immigration (i wonder if he shovels his own snow) and go along with the other mindless sheep while our social programs, health care, environmental programs and other projects get shunted to the sidelines to fund this (generational) war or to fund some pork barrel project.

I want a president that has the foresight and guts to say “going to war with Iraq was wrong and we should withdraw as quickly as possible” and someone that believes that our current reliance on oil is making this country weaker.
In other words lets cut the bullsh!t and stop allowing these elitist (which, for over a million dollars a year that CNN pays Lou Dobbs he belongs) to placate the masses with their feigned empath about the middleclasses problems and elect someone who really gives a damn and knows what really ails this country.

Therefore, as for me and my house we choose the future… we choose Obama

Hillary continues to get favourabe ratings in the polls. How exciting. Obama’s numbers are also encouraging and will they get better?

Ready or not I think Obama is about to reign in a big surprise on the USof A. Go for it Obama!

Well, with the news that Tony Snow’s cancer has also returned, this is a week for Elizabeth and John Edwards to pat themselves on the back; given the number of people, who will go for that check up they have been putting off.

That said, in terms of political points, I cannot see any advantages for Edward’s campaign. He probably should have droppped out.

He could slide even further into third place. Still hopeful, however, that he “stirs” up some dust on the “stump”, showing that he has what it takes to send jitters in the camps of his rivals.

Staying the course in the presidential race is a personal and critical decision that Mr. and Mrs. Edwards have to make. Let’s face it, Mrs. Edwards is in the fight of her life, with her husband and family by her side. But should they stop doing the things they love to do and throw a pity party? I don’t think so. There is no question in my mind that camp Edwards is up against all odds, and this will definitely affect the outcome of their campaign. However, I believe that even though the Senator has reassured his supporters that he will remain in the race, the Edwards will have their priorities in sight.

If there is one good thing that will come out of this yet again is the great attention brought to this malady i.e. breast cancer. I hope this will encourage people to get annual screening.

Mrs. Edwards keep fighting. You have two small children who need you. Good luck.

For me –”It is the economy stupid!”

Lou Dobbs should be drafted because the middle class has stumbled and the poor are getting poorer. Hillary says she will make efforts to strengthen the middle class– but largely all the candidates seem to forget that politics is also about people– everyone is concerned about ‘power’.

A Lou Dobbs draft would put some excitement among the middle class who are left out of the puzzle. Without our votes where would the parties be?

    It’s way too early.

    Fox is just crazy.

Obama and Clinton,a real competition within the Democratic party.

I am delighted that no one person so far has clearly and continuously dominated the race. That means the competition is still wide open for surprises. Barack Obama is definitely a force to be reckoned with and I envision him making leaps and bounds because of his platform. However, whomever presents the best platform for “Ordinary Americans” will get my support and for me that is the bottomline.
