Michelle Obama applauds peformers at “Giselle” at the Royal Opera House, London
By viewing a few videos its clear, the president has a full schedule, not to mention, he’s also suffering from jet lag.
He made deals at the G20 summit, and spoke in Strasbourg, France at a
town hall meeting. There the audience was in full attendance. He has now moved on to Germany, where he again met with Angela Merkel, Germany Chancellor. At all stops, he was : dynamic, engaged, and comfortable in his role as leader of the free world.
As Washington Post puts it “After the agreement in London, Obama may just develop a reputation as a dealmaker. Surely if he can get China and France to agree on complex financial regulations, Obama can get Reid and McConnell, et al, together on health care reform, right? But how impressive was the deal itself? The stock markets certainly liked it. Steven Pearlstein called it not quite a “turning point” but “an easy win for all concerned.” But the New York Times notes that Obama “did not get much of what American officials had been hoping for,” particularly in convincing other countries to boost their stimulus spending.”
Yes, Mr. Obama will not return here having accomplished all that was on his list, but there is no doubt that he wowed Europe, beyond those from the G20 countries. When he returns next Tuesday, he would have developed friendships and collaborations needed to address the global financial crisis at hand. He clearly stated that he was there not to lecture, but to listen. A good listener usually makes a good leader. Does he have short-comings? Yes. Absolutely! But it was wonderful to watch him in action and see it confirmed that he can ‘walk and chew gum’. He can multi-task. To ask perfection from the POTUS who is in office less that 90 days, is a bit much. So I am prepared to give him a high grade for performance.
He achieved a great deal with both ‘Style and Substance’ — who could ask for more this early in game? What are your thoughts? Are you among those praying that he ‘fails’ at his job? Or are you inspired to do your part to keep this country strong?
