Elizabeth Edwards after a long battle with cancer, has died. She came on the scene as the wife of John Edwards but in the interim blazed a trail for herself not only as politically savvy but also as a stalwart for health care reform.
She will also be remembered by those of us women who can appreciate a ‘woman’ on the Stump with some smarts. She served in the capacity among other things as campaign manager for her husband and proved that for her health for America’s poor and middle class was an issue worth fighting for. Pigs and lipstick– such frivolity never a part of her lexicon.
Elizabeth was bright, personable, strong and engaging. Fought the good fight on many fronts–but through it all showed much class and sophistication. Looking back one wonders why she never was a candidate in her own right. Proud to think and talk politics as I reflect on her life and legacy. Through her participation women have moved a bit closer to prove –that even if rare, some do have the talent to make a difference.
May she Rest In Peace!
