A vote comes up tomorrow to repeal health care reform. Yep, the GOP side steps its promise to focus on jobs and instead will use these early days of 112th Congress to grandstand to repeal a piece of legislation that will go nowhere in the Senate.
What a way to “intimidate’ Democrats who believe in moving forward with a meaningful progressive agenda? A great side-show for those of us who are neither impressed or intimidated by such a weak demonstration of a party that promised to get things churning ‘backwards’ and really fast.
That said, its all about the politics of health care, and the battle begins. An attempt to strip coverage and access for over 129 million Americans who will benefit from reform as it now enough. See article from Huffingtonpost. Nevertheless, this gives the Democrats another opportunity to defend this bill and vividly focus on those who will be affected, particularly those with pre-existing conditions; and who in the past had no chance for coverage. Its also a golden opportunity for President Obama as he thinks the 2012 elections and his agenda in the coming two years.
As voters we too are ‘wide awake’ given we had so much ‘TEA” to drink. Will the House under a new Speaker demonstrate that ’winning’ was the only thing; or that this new majority is truly interested in governing?
Will they also show through amendments to several pieces of legislation they have a plan to do something meaningful and put to rest what most of us think– its all about using their new power to ‘stick’ it to Americas middle class, while the very rich walk away with everything they desire? They have two (2) years to prove the depth of their leadership, show emphasis on what is fake and what is “real” .
Irrespective of how its played out, the politics of health care is on. Dang, I don’t happen to believe they have a clue on how to move forward. But we will see what happens. Could be now that face of the reality of governing they might of made promises they have no chances to fulfill, given Dems if even my a small margin have the Senate and President holds the White House.
