Increasingly, its becoming evident that the present line-up of GOP presidential candidates are really seen as far from ready to take on President Obama in the general elections, scheduled for a year from now.
Yes, GOP insiders are getting really nervous that those trying to win the nomination may be described as ” A basket of fruit” , but none really ripe”. Is a chuckle, laugh in order? I would say yes. I believe absolutely in a two -party system, and relish a real horse-race when I think choices but for those of us following the Republican debates none seem fitting to lead. Businessman, Herman Cain now leads, with Mitt Romney in second place, but neither outside of their small, select base seem to have a following. Cain looks good leading polls among conservatives, but that is unlikely to convert into real votes as they think pulling Independents, Democrats.
Sadly, even Bill Kristol of the Weekly Standard seem to understand this coming election will not be a play back of the elections in 1980, when the late Ronald Reagan snatched victory from President Jimmy Carter. A race is on, but see on political thorough -breds. Instead we see a bunch of small horses, ponies wanting to show us something- what no one is quite sure. What most know however, is that President Obama and his team are fully prepared to take on the GOP, and despite Obama’s standing in the polls, it will not be a cake- walk for Republicans.
What are your thoughts on the Republican “8″? Cain and Romney leads, but neither bring excitement to Republicans in general. A few may have support in Tea party coffee hours somewhere, but outside of that niche, many are not cheering. Share your thoughts on the GOP’s “basket of fruit”. See any that may prove ‘ripe’ and ready to serve?
